Foodie Baby

I'm a picky eater.  There are a ton of things I won't touch and can't even stand the smell of.  Most of them are totally normal things that people love.  Hot dogs, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, green beans..  That said, I don't want Zooey to grow up not being introduced to new tastes and textures but how do I accomplish this when I don't even want to eat a lot of foods myself?
We seem to eat a lot of bananas and graham crackers in this house.  Yogurt makes its daily appearance as well.  While all those things are great they stop being so when they're your child's daily breakfast (and sometimes lunch).  I'll admit a lot of it has to do with me being lazy right now.  I feel like I don't have the time or energy to cook something when she's sitting in her high chair screaming and crying to be fed.

I'm often floored by the fact that I don't know exactly what I can and can't feed her at this age.  I know eggs are okay but peanut butter is not.  I know some things she is rejecting now (like turkey and most meats in general) can be replaced and its not a big deal.  But she only has two teeth.  I was assured that this was totally normal for a one year old and I have nothing to worry about, but it makes me so nervous when trying to pick new foods for her to try.  Apples?  No, probably too hard to chew.  Zucchini?  Have to peel the skins off first but she seems to like them fine.

Really I'm just putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on myself and I know that.  Sometimes being a mom feels like more of a competition than the joy it should be.  Hopefully I'll be able to browse Pinterest and put together some meal ideas for the nugget that I can prep for the week.  That seems to be the least stressful option- a little bit of work one day for a smooth week.

Hope you're all hanging in there!  Happy Monday!

  1. Applesauce, sweet potatoes, green beans (you might not like them, but she may love them), avacoado...just a couple things you could try that don't take alot of work. You're doing a great job! - Anna

    1. It sounds so simple when I hear suggestions from other people! Then I get to the grocery store (with no list, because-hello!-its me we're dealing with) and get overwhelmed and buy more of our usual. Maybe today will be "Make a List Day"?

  2. It is a good thing that...when the time comes...I will be primarily feeding our babies. If it was up to Barry, they'd eat steak, Reeces cups, french fries, and cornbread - all washed down with a Coke (regardless of current tooth count). Alas, I have no baby-feeding insights to share. But I can pray for wisdom and peace. How's that?

    1. That sounds like an awesome baby diet! So why aren't you letting him be in charge of feeding? ;) Prayers are always welcome, Michele! Thank you!
